So long and thanks for all the fish! 👋🏻

I’m leaving Meta thanks to the mass layoffs. When someone leaves, the tradition is to do a ‘badge post’. Here’s mine.

I had high hopes on joining Facebook nearly two years ago. Being hired as a remote Research leader for the first time in my career was a game changer for me and I'm really grateful to have had this opportunity. It came at exactly the right time. This past twenty months have been some of the most challenging times I have been through personally, experiencing the decline of both parents and losing my Dad a year ago. Being remote made it a lot easier for me to continue to show up and make a meaningful contribution.

I’m disappointed to be leaving sooner than I had anticpated but in the words of Green Day,

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road

Tie grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go

So make the best of this test, and don’t ask why

It’s anot a question, but a lesson learned in time

I've certainly learnt a lot here and had the pleasure of working with many smart people - too many to mention.

What’s next? The layoffs have been quite the ride, so I'm taking some time off before starting something new. I’m heading off on holiday, prioritising exercise, seeing family and friends, pottering about at home and spending time with my kids when they let me! After that, I’ll be ready for a new challenge 🙌🏻
